STEPS: How to Get Started
1) Initial telephone contact between EPI and client company to determine
parameters of the
training. Agreement
reached to conduct a Needs Assessment as the worksite.
2) First Needs Assessment Form
is sent electronically to client, completed, and returned to EPI.
3) An
on-site in-person second Needs Assessment
is conducted by EPI, which includes an interview and language assessment of each
proposed trainee, discussion with Training Manager and/or appropriate
supervisors as to perceived needs, and inspection of work areas of trainees and
possible training room sites.
4) EPI sends a training proposal to the client
for final approval and signature. The
proposal includes individual assessment of each interviewed proposed trainee,
proposed groupings by proficiency level,
general training program focus and content, start - end dates, cost and billing process. Cost of
Needs Assessment is subtracted
from total training cost in the signed agreement.
5) Training Program takes place during
scheduled period, with periodic reports to designated company official.
6) Completion of program: end-of-training general report; individual report on each trainee; recommendations for renewal, if appropriate.
LEVELS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:
Determined through a pre-program Needs Assessment,
plus an additional individual evaluation at the start of the program. Beginning through advanced students can be
trained; a successful program requires that employees be grouped into similar
proficiency levels for effective classroom work.
TRAINING HOURS:
Arranged at the convenience of the employer. Most companies choose to have the training
take place at the beginning or end of a shift.
Training may take place during or outside normal work hours. Training during work hours provides greater
motivation and demonstrates greater commitment on the company’s part to the
employee’s future.
PROGRAM DURATION:
Language proficiency improvement takes time. The minimum program EPI offers is 40 hours of
contracted training, best delivered in two 2-hour sessions per week over a
ten-week period. The 40-hour program,
however, can be compressed into fewer weeks.
